How to use

Ru-verbる -> られる
U-verb(ない form) ない -> れる
するされる
くるこられる

Learn Japanese grammar: 【うけみ】(ukemi). Meaning: Japanese passive form or passive voice. Often displayed as られる、される、こられる (rareru, sareru, korareru).

Passive verbs are verbs that are done to the (passive) subject.

Passive form conjugation samples

Ru-verbs

  • 食べ -> 食べ (taberareru)
  • -> 出 (derareru)
  • -> 寝 (nerareru)
  • 起き -> 起き (okirareru)
  • -> 着 (kirareru)

U-verbs

  • -> 聞 (kikareru)
  • -> 待 (matareru)
  • -> 飲 (nomareru)
  • -> 買 (kawareru)
  • -> 話 (hanaseru)

Important Notes

Be careful to not confuse this with , meaning the ability or inability to do something.

This book covers all of the grammar that you need to know to pass the JLPT N4, and includes great practice excercises. One down side though, is it's mostly in Japanese, but that will help you in the long run.

Jlpt N4 Japanese Lauguage Proficiency Test Official Practice Test

This is the official practice test of the JLPT N4. I highly recommend doing at least 1 practice test before taking the real test.
