How to use

Learn Japanese grammar: (you ni suru) / (you ni shiteiru). Meaning: to try to; to make sure that.

  • (you ni suru) is used to say things like:
    • I’ll/let’s try to ~
    • I’ll/let’s make sure that ~

Different ways to use:

  • ようにする (you ni suru) casual
    • examples 1~2
  • ようにします (you ni shimasu) more polite
    • examples 3~4
  • ようにしている (you ni shiteiru) current state
    • examples 5~6
  • ようにしています (you ni shiteimasu) current state polite
    • examples 7~8

I'll try to wake up early tomorrow.

sore o wasurenai you ni suru.
I'll be sure to remember that.

あしたからしごとにいくまえにまいにちラニングをするようにします。
ashita kara shigoto ni iku mae ni mainichi raningu o suru you ni shimasu.
From tomorrow I'm going to try to go running before work every day.

きょうからおさけをのまないようにします。
kyou kara osake o nomanai you ni shimasu.
I'm going to not drink alcohol anymore from today.

GENKI II: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese

This is the best all around book for beginners learning Japanese in English. I used this in my first year studying Japanese. I found it to be far better and easier to use than the many other books I was using. This is the second book in the series and should cover most of what you need to pass JLPT N4.

Kanzen Master Jlpt Grammar N4

This book covers all of the grammar that you need to know to pass the JLPT N4, and includes great practice excercises. One down side though, is it's mostly in Japanese, but that will help you in the long run.

Jlpt N4 Japanese Lauguage Proficiency Test Official Practice Test

This is the official practice test of the JLPT N4. I highly recommend doing at least 1 practice test before taking the real test.
