Learn Japanese grammar: (nagara). Meaning: while; during; as; to do two things simultaneously.

  • (nagara) is used to show simultaneous actions.
    • [A]ながら[B] (to do B while doing A)
    • It can be used to express 2 things happening at the exact same moment, or more broad.
      • “I watch TV while I eat” (exact time)
      • “I work full time while going to school” (more broad)

  • NOTE*
    • It cannot be used with verbs related to time.
    • (nagara) may have a different meaning depending on the context. Look at lesson for more information.
