Learn Japanese grammar: (kata). Meaning: the way of doing something; how to do.

  • (kata) is used to express 2 similar meanings:
    1. the way of doing something
      • 食べ = (たべかた) = the way to eat
    2. how to do something
      • 食べ = (たべかた) = how to eat

  • It is used at the end of a verb in ます form, by removing the ます.
    • 食べます = (たべますかた)

  • It is often written both in the kanji version and hiragana version:
    • 食べ
    • 食べ
