Learn Japanese grammar: 未だしも 【】 (nara madashimo). Meaning: rather; better​ ~.

There are two main patterns that are used.

Pattern 1) Noun[A] + ならまだしも + [B]

Pattern 2) Noun[A] + はまだしも + [B]

[A] is the preferred option over [B].

ichido dake nara madashimo, nido mo shippai shite shimatta.
It would be alright if I only messed up once, but I failed twice..

あのひと、wordやexcelがつかえないのはまだしも、メールもできないらしいよ。
ano hito, word ya excel ga tsukaenai no wa madashimo, meeru mo dekinai rashii yo.
It's one thing that they don't know how to use word and excel, but apparently they don't even know how to use email.

ぼくのえいごりょくでは、りょこうはまだしも、りゅうがくなんてむりです。
boku no eigo ryoku de wa, ryokou wa madashimo, ryuugaku nante muri desu.
With my English ability, I can handle a bit of traveling, but studying abroad is out of the question.

suufun nara madashimo, sanjuu pun mo matteimasen.
I'm alright waiting a few minutes, but 30 minutes is unacceptable.

ごじゅうねんまえならまだしも、いまそんなことをしんじているひとはいません。
gojuu nen mae nara madashimo, ima sonnna koto o shinjiteiru hito wa imasen.
If it were 50 years ago, someone may believe you, but no one is going to believe that story now.

すうじつならまだしも、とおかかんもたいのうしています。
suujitsu nara madashimo, tookakan mo tainou shiteimasu.
It would be alright if it were just a few days, but you are currently 10 days behind on your payment.

もんくをいうだけならまだしも、じょせいにぼうりょくをふるうのはぜったいにいけません。
monku o iu dake nara madashi mo, josei ni bouryoku o furuu no wa zettai ni ikemasen.
It's one thing to voice a complaint, but violence against women is absolutely not OK.
