This sentence pattern is limited to being used with certain words.

Some of the most common ones include:

  • 驚いた 【おどろいた】 = to my surprise~
  • 悲しい 【かなしい】= to my sadness; sadly~
  • 面白い【おもしろい】= to my amusement; interestingly~
  • 残念な【ざんねんな】= unfortunately~
