How to use


Learn Japanese grammar: / (ほうがいい) (hou ga ii). Meaning: had better; it’d be better to; should~

  • This grammar is used to suggest that a certain option is better:
    • You had better ~
    • It would be better to ~
    • You should ~

Both the kanji and hiragana version can be used:

  • (hou ga ii)
  • (hou ga ii)

Example A) past-casual

  • itta hou ga ii.
  • You had better go

Example B) negative

  • 行か
  • ikanai hou ga ii
  • You shouldn’t go
